About OURJAPAN!

OURJAPAN! is a new resource for all students studying Japanese.

The main purpose of this publication is to provide young people with informative and enjoyable Japanese study materials and the latest topics from Japan.

We had been developing this newspaper since 2006.  We have been fortunate to gain warm support for this publication from educators in New Zealand and Australia.

We especially appreciate the dedicated and continuous support from Dr Yuriko Kayamoto, National Adviser of Japanese, Dr Andrew Barke, Japanese Lecturer, Victoria University of Wellington and Ms Yuko Fujimitsu, Japanese language advisor, Department of Education and Training, Western Australia. We have also received support from the Minister for Tertiary Education (Hon Dr Michael Cullen), the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Rt Hon Winston Peters), and the Embassy of Japan (Ms Keiko Furuta, Director of Japan Information and Cultural Centre).

The publisher and editor, Yuriko Mochinaga, graduated with a law degree from Japan, and then obtained the National Diploma in Journalism after studying in New Zealand. Also, we have other part-time and voluntary staff both in New Zealand and Japan. That is why we will be able to bring you interesting and up-to-date information directly from Japan. Yuriko completed the Japanese Teachers' Training Course in Japan. It is intended that the newspaper will be circulated in all schools and tertiary institutions where Japanese is studied.

We know that there are a significant number of students undertaking Japanese courses in New Zealand and Australia each year, with Japanese being the second most popular “second language” choice for language students.

We hope that the newspaper will be received favourably by teachers and students. Our aim is that this resource will help connect students and teachers around New Zealand and Australia. We welcome feedback to enable us to develop the publication further.
